The first part of any loft conversion project is the planning stage. At this stage, you can chat through your ideas with us, determining the purpose of your new loft. We will arrange a meeting to establish your requirements, measuring your loft and seeing what size of rooms are feasible. This will allow us to give you an accurate quotation for the proposed works.
Following the meeting, our architectural designer will draw up a set of loft conversion plans, showing the layout, dimensions and overall look of the room(s). You will receive these plans as well as a quote and all the information you need. Once you are happy with the plans, they will be sent to your local authority to be approved. If planning permission is required, we will guide you through the steps to obtain the appropriate permissions.
If you are reading this, you are probably still in the planning stage, so please get in touch if you would like to discuss creating your loft conversion with us!
Next, we will move into the preparation stage, making the necessary arrangements to get everything ready for the build. This includes arranging a date to commence works, putting up scaffolding and gathering materials.
Works usually last between 6 to 8 weeks, depending on the size of your loft, so we will make sure that the conversion takes place at a time that is convenient for you. When erecting the scaffolding around your house, we will do it in a way that ensures minimal disruption to you and your family. We will be doing all the hard work, so you can carry on with life as normal!
There’s no need to worry about materials as we will source them all, taking care to colour-match bricks to the existing building so that the loft conversion looks like a natural extension of the house.
Once all the preparations are complete, we can then start the construction stage!
First of all, we will rip out any unnecessary structures and furnishings in your loft so that we can make room for your new living space. We will then be able to work on the beams and cladding, building a strong underlying structure and laying the foundations for your loft conversion.
Depending on the type of loft conversion that we are building, we will install Velux and/or Dormer windows at this stage. This will help to bring more natural light into the room and make it feel brighter and more spacious.
The final part of the process is the finishing stage. As the name suggests, this is when all the finishing touches are added to your new loft.
We will plaster the walls and ceilings, leaving you with a smooth, even surface. As soon as the plumbing, tiling and all other additional works have been completed, your loft will start to feel more homely. It may be helpful to view the loft as a blank canvas that you can decorate however you wish.
Upon the completion of your loft conversion project, we will conduct a thorough inspection and you will receive all the requisite certificates and approvals. Once we have signed it off, you can then furnish and decorate your loft space, making it your own. Finally, you can sit back, relax and enjoy your dream space…
